The first match of the season saw Redruth RFC meet Old Redcliffians at Redruth Recreation Ground on Saturday 2nd September and Redruth Charity Trust (RCT) hosted its annual Sponsors Reward Day; an afternoon of superb sport enjoyed in great company to celebrate the valuable support lent by local businesses.
The RCT Trustees welcomed over 60 representatives from their Gold, Silver, Bronze and Tin sponsorship schemes, enjoying a pasty and a pint while cheering on the Reds to victory, finishing 28-21. It was a tense but exciting first match for our new squad: the first 35 mins was difficult work for our Reds and Old Redcliffians took a 21 point lead, but then on 38 mins the Reds grabbed a converted try just before the break. The second period was a completely different affair as Redruth applied pressure with fluent multi-phase moves. 3 converted tries later the Reds left the field to a great ovation from the home faithful.

RCT Chair of Trustees, Chris Hailey, said:
What an nail-biting match we had the pleasure of enjoying with our guests from the wonderful local businesses and organisations that support the Trust.
Our good work doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s all about teamwork, understanding, and a shared goal to make a difference in Redruth. It’s essential that everyone who contributes to our charity knows how much we value their support and how it benefits our community.
Big thanks to Redruth RFC for hosting us, the Mini Juniors for providing pasties and to all our partners who came along for the ride.
