Redruth Charity Trust has received a significant donation from the family of Selwyn Keith Trevethick, a well-known and much loved Redruth resident who passed away aged 73 on 24th March 2019.
A total of £994 was collected at the funeral service for Selwyn, which was held at St Andrews Church in Redruth on Friday 5th April. The church was full to capacity for the service, with hundreds of friends and family gathered to remember a man that loved his community.
Selwyn’s family identified the Redruth Charity Trust as their chosen charity due to its work with young people and sport, two important elements in Selwyn’s life.
Trust Chairman Chris Hailey said:
“I was lucky to call Selwyn a friend and, as a fellow rugby referee, we shared a passion for sport. His loss is greatly felt in this town, demonstrated by the overwhelming congregation number at his funeral service and the staggering total collected in his memory.
“It is an honour for the Trust to have been selected by the family to receive their donation and, with their blessing, the funds will be evenly directed between supporting a summer school for disadvantaged children in Redruth and the 2020 Youth Sports Awards.
“On behalf of the Trustees, I wish to express our sympathies to Jennifer, Damian, Scott and all of Selwyn’s family, along with our heartfelt thanks for their support for our charity.”
