Redruth Charity Trust is proud to support the new Georgia’s Voice Hub named ‘The Chy’, located centrally in Redruth to serve the whole county, which will provide vital support to young women aged 18-25 at risk of suicide.
In collaboration with Redruth Rotary Club and Camborne & Redruth District Lions Club, Redruth Charity Trust has contributed £500 towards furnishing and equipping the Hub, assisting its preparation to open for users from 18th January 2025.
Suicide is the leading cause of death in young people in the UK. Girls and young women under the age of 25 in Cornwall are particularly at risk, experiencing one of the highest increases in suicide rates in recent years. With a lack of easily accessible help and support available (Cornwall has the second longest wait time for talking therapy treatment in the UK) young women in our county are often left with inadequate support, and at worst, with nowhere to turn. Open every weekend initially and extending to 7 days a week over the first few months, the Hub provides free mental health and emotional support, therapy and signposting, as well as a range of workshops.
Located at the Village Kitchen Café (also run by Georgia’s Voice) in the Gateway Business Centre in Barncoose, the Hub will be staffed by trained Support Workers providing free 1-1 support, drop-in sessions and group workshops to help young women develop coping strategies and gain essential life skills. If the charity can raise enough funds over the coming months, they aim to open the Hub 24 hours a day for 7 days a week. Until then, the Hub is open every weekend for anyone who needs it.
Sophie Alway, Founder and Director of Georgia’s Voice, expressed her gratitude: “We’re so delighted that Redruth Charity Trust is supporting our new Georgia’s Voice Hub in Redruth. The strength of community spirit in Cornwall is amazing, and I firmly believe that together we can prevent more suicides among young women in our county.”
Chris Hailey, Chair of Redruth Charity Trust, said: “We are honoured to contribute to the launch of the Georgia’s Voice Hub. Providing a safe space for young women in our community is a cause we deeply value, and we believe this new provision will make a positive difference in many lives.”
