On 19th October, the Redruth Charity Trust Community Awards presentation evening took place in the majestic Forum Room of the Penventon Park Hotel, where a total of £3000 was distributed to groups and clubs in the district.
Since this Awards scheme started 29 years ago, the Trust has donated £121,000 to the town’s community groups and clubs.
15 groups from the Redruth area were represented, and were entertained by a small ensemble from the Lanner & District Silver Band. The presentations were compered by Trustee Alan Jewell. Trust Chairman, Chris Hailey, welcomed representatives from the applying community groups and presented their grant certificates. Chris said:
“The Trustees extend thanks to Darren Kaslow, General Manager of the Penventon Park Hotel, our Gold Community Sponsor for a second year, and his team for hosting the presentation event, as we enter our 29th year as a charity and our 29th giving out Community Awards.
We also recognise Cornwall Electrical Contractors and Cornish Metals as Silver Sponsors with Redruth Revival and Roger Watson in Bronze support.
It is interesting to note that the Trust has received fewer applications for Community Awards over the past three Covid affected years; likely some groups and clubs are yet to resume. It was great to see children’s groups still active as we supported five of them but there was only one musical application this year. A smaller number of awards perhaps, but they totalled just over £3,000, which will be used to good effect by the fantastic groups and clubs in our district.
Looking ahead to 2023, we would welcome contact from further groups that may benefit from financial support. Those that are active in Redruth town as well as our outlying villages of Carharrack, St Day, Illogan, Portreath and Pool.
I am proud that we have kept delivering over the past three difficult years which has been very important, and the Trustees will be working hard on a new scheme for next year. It will be our 30th Anniversary Year so we want it to be special for us and all our clubs.”
Five sponsors supported the 2022 Community Awards, to whom we extend our sincere thanks: GOLD Penventon Park Hotel; SILVER Cornish Metals and Cornwall Electrical Contactors; BRONZE Redruth Revival and Roger Watson.
